Sports car driver caught for high-range drink driving two hours apart

A sports car driver will face court caught for alleged high-range drink driving, after being caught twice about two hours apart across Canberra. In one of the instances, the driver is alleged to have been more than four times the legal limit. In a statement, ACT Policing said they were patrolling Canberra city in the early hours of Saturday when they stopped a Nissan 350Z driven by a 34-year-old man of Weston. Police checks revealed the vehicle was allegedly unregistered before the officers carried out a breath test on the driver. He recorded a positive result for alcohol and was taken to the City Police Station where he allegedly recorded 0.202 grams of alcohol per 210 litres of breath, which is more than four times the legal limit of 0.05. The man’s right to drive was suspended for 90 days via an immediate suspension notice. He was released from custody and ordered to go home. About two hours later at about 5.10am, police saw the same Nissan 350Z being driven in Deakin. Police stopped the car and identified the driver as the same man. Breath analysis at City Station allegedly resulted in 0.159 grams of alcohol per 210 litres of breath. The man remained in custody at the ACT Watch House and will face the ACT Magistrates Court on November 12. He is charged with two counts of driving a car with alcohol in blood, two counts of using an unregistered car and one count of driving while suspended. The risk that you’ll die in a crash. The risk that you’ll be caught by police.” Detective Inspector Hofmeier said with the Melbourne Cup approaching, she urged people to make the choice to drink or drive but not both. “Furthermore, and I really can’t believe I have to say this: if we catch you drink driving and your licence is suspended, don’t get in your car to drive yourself home,” she said.
