Daughter’s emotional plea 30 years after Melbourne dad’s disappearance

The daughter of a Melbourne man who vanished in suspicious circumstances has issued an emotional plea on the 30th anniversary of his disappearance.

Mark Jansen was last seen leaving a fish shop that he co-owned with his business partner in Dandenong in Melbourne’s south-east on November 12, 1994.

Police believe he left the premises in his 1981 yellow Holden Gemini sedan, accompanied by two men and a woman.

It’s understood he’d planned to make his way to Adelaide for the Grand Prix at the time.

However, he was never seen again and his partial remains were uncovered almost a decade later.

“We believe that Mark has met with foul play and we are seeking assistance today to find out some answers as to what actually happened and who may be responsible,” Detective Dave Dunstan said in a press conference today.

At the time of his disappearance, Jansen was living in a caravan in the Dandenong area.

He had been declared bankrupt and owed money to several people.

Police also believe he may have been involved in low-level drug dealing.

In 2014, DNA testing confirmed that partial remains found during unrelated excavation works in Marysville belonged to Jansen.

Jansen’s eldest daughter Lichelle said the family was “still haunted” by his disappearance.

“Losing you broke something in me that I don’t think will ever heal,” she said in a statement.

“I was just a child when you disappeared, but the pain of not having you by my side has followed me every day since.”

She urged anyone with information to come forward in a bid for “justice for my dad”.

“I’m begging anyone who knows anything to please come forward. No piece of information is too small—it could be the key to finding justice for my dad,” she said.

“Imagine if this were your family, your father, your pain. Please don’t stay silent.”

Police have released images of three people who they believe may be able to assist with locating Jansen.

They include one male described as Caucasian, 178 cm tall, aged between 25 and 30.

He is of medium build with clean-shaven, dark short hair.

The other male is described as Caucasian, 167cm tall, aged between 25 and 30.

He is of stocky build and clean-shaven with dark collar-length hair.

The third person, a woman, is described as Caucasian of a slim build with fair, straight shoulder-length hair.
