Alan Jones hit with two more charges after ninth alleged victim comes forward

Former top broadcaster Alan Jones has been hit with two more charges relating to an alleged ninth victim.

Police charged Jones, 83, with two additional counts of assault with an act of indecency today after being charged with 24 counts of historic indecent assault yesterday.

Detectives say the additional charges were laid after a ninth alleged victim was discovered during the investigation.

Jones was arrested at his Circular Quay home at 7.45am on Monday. 

He was charged with 24 offences, dating between 2001 and 2019, including 11 counts of aggravated indecent assault under authority, nine counts of assault with an act of indecency and two counts of common assault.

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Michael Fitzgerald told media the youngest of Jones’ alleged victims was aged 17 at the time the alleged offence took place.

The Herald and the Age newspapers in recent months published allegations from a number of young men that they had been indecently assaulted by Jones.

Fitzgerald confirmed reports published in Nine newspapers The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age resulted in some alleged victims coming forward to police.

Investigative Journalist Kate McClymont told 9News that since charges were laid yesterday, more people have reached out to her in relation to the allegations.

“More people have already contacted me wanting to speak to the police … whether that will result in anything [we don’t know],” she said.

“But certainly more people are coming forward.”

McClymont broke the story in relation to the allegations against Jones last year.

Jones has strenuously denied all allegations.

He has been granted conditional bail and will appear in Downing Centre Local Court on December 18.
