‘I had to pee real bad’: Tien’s fast finish

Tien is so honest and he revealed his thinking behind the super fast, 24-minute fourth set.

“I was definitely hoping it wouldn’t go to a fifth-set breaker,” Tien said.

“But I was just happy to get the win. I made it hard on myself but whatever.

“In the fourth set, I just had to pee so bad. I was trying to finish it up quick and I wanted to start the firth serving. I scrapped out that last game and it all worked out.”

He also thanked the fans for staying out on court with him.

“I don’t know if my parents are still watching, if they are, then I love you guys and thank you for supporting me from across the world,” Tien said.

Tien wins

Learner Tien has defeated No.5 seed Daniil Medvedev in five sets.

The 19-year-old US qualifier had never been past the first round until this event.

Now he has defeated a giant in world tennis.

Tien is remarkably calm, he held his hands aloft. Smiled and shook hands than thanked the crowd.

You get the feeling he plans to win a lot more big matches in his career.

More to come.

Tien won’t lay down

It’s 7-6 Medvedev as we hit the business end of the 10-point tie-break.

Medvedev went to the net for an 8-6 lead but Tien chased down his shot and sent it down the line for a winner.

Who will blink for?

Medvedev breaks Tien, will serve for match

Tien just wasn’t as sharp as Medvedev coming out of that rain break.

He fell behind on his serve and it was all the No.5 seed needed to get the break.

Medvedev is now serving for the match at 6-5 up.

Roof closes

Play is about to resume at 15-15 in the 10th game.

The roof is now on to protect us from any more rain.

Play stops for rain

Out of all the craziness in this game, now we have a rain delay.

A tiny patch of rain came out from nowhere.

It is very light but enough to take the players off the court but they are staying at their benches under their mini roofs as the ball kids get towels and start wiping down the court.

The court wipers are getting a big cheer.

Crowd making their own fun

Medvedev wanted more balls and gestured towards the umpire in the ninth game.

He had three in his hands and he didn’t seem to think the ball kids had enough balls.

A man with a very pronounced Aussie ascent called out: “You’ve got three in your hand.”

Fans laughed. Medvedev played on and won the game.

It’s 5-5 in the fifth with Tien to serve.

Crowd still roaring

The crowd is roaring after the change of ends as Tien and Medvedev come out with it 4-4.

Some fans took the chance to dance during the break as the Red Hot Chilli Peppers “Can’t stop” played.

The match has ticked over four hours now. There are still plenty of tennis to go.

Tien is serving to take a 5-4 lead in the fifth.

Medvedev breaks back

It is going to be that kind of crazy last set – Tien breaks Medvedev, then Medvedev breaks Tien.

All signs point to this one going to a 10-point tie-break but there is still plenty of craziness to unfold.

Tien just didn’t hit his marks in that last game and Medvedev jumped on his opportunities.

It’s 3-2 to Tien in the deciding fifth set.
