Two women struck by lightning as storms lash south-east Queensland
One woman was struck at Yandina on the Sunshine Coast and another at Burpengary as the region was hit with thunderstorms and intense rainfall overnight and into this morning.
West Woombye on the Sunshine Coast recorded 151mm in just three hours overnight.
Nearby Nambour recorded 136 mm.
One driver became caught in flash flooding in the intense rain around 3am and was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts Brisbane will receive up to 90mm of rain across the day.
A severe thunderstorm warning for the region has now been cancelled but there is still a chance of heavy falls across the day.
Showers are forecast to persist into the long weekend, easing on Sunday.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are also expected over parts of New South Wales and Victoria today.
According to Weatherzone, heavy rain and possible thunderstorms will spread over south-west New South Wales this afternoon and into tomorrow morning, reaching Sydney by the afternoon and evening.
Damaging wind gusts and possible hail could affect western and northern parts of the state.
Widespread falls of 20-30mm are expected over parts of central, western and northern Victoria today and into tomorrow, with pockets of 40-50mm possible.
Adelaide and Hobart have both had a cloudy start to the long weekend with showers expected to develop across the weekend.
Most of the west and north of the country will remain clear and dry.
