Meet the Canberra advent calendar for the person who has everything

Holiday season is almost upon us, and with 11 measly weeks until Christmas you might be starting to wonder “What the heck do I get everyone?!”

As the end of lockdown approaches, going out for Christmas shopping might be the last thing on your to-do list. But, as you can never go wrong with an advent calendar (chocolate or otherwise), one local business has created the perfect Christmas present for the Canberran who has everything.

The Canberra Region Advent Calendar from Sharwood Hampers is a limited-edition box of joy featuring the best of everything Canberra and surrounding regions has to offer, from Canberra Distillery Gin, to Sweet Chilli Sauce from Anthony’s Sauces & Condiments in Goulburn, and more.

Currently available for a pre-sale price of $198 until Friday 15 October, the calendar features 24 unique and Christmas-themed mini products made exclusively for Sharwood Hampers.

With five years of experience creating premium gifts, Sharon Isherwood says the Canberra Region Advent Calendar has been nine months in the making.

“The focus of our business is that we supply products from around the Canberra region and the surrounding regions, and I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if I could actually make it into an advent calendar?’” says Sharon.

“There’s a lot of fantastic businesses out there in the region who are creating these really quality fantastic products…I think that it’s really important to support local suppliers, because if you don’t support what’s made locally, then you know it’s not really doing a good service to the community,”

From Christmas-scented soap to whisky, Sharon says the mix of products are a reflection of the region’s range of quality local businesses and while she hopes the Canberra Region Advent Calendar brings joy during the festival season, her ultimate goal is to share local businesses with the community.

“I want people to know what’s out there in their local community, what people make, the fantastic products,” she says. “So whilst it’s a product that can be enjoyed throughout December, we want people to know what’s there and what’s available.”

With only a limited number of stock, once the pre-sale ends the calendars will be available for $218 until sold out.

While Sharon hopes to continue the calendar in the future, she says this year’s version is extra special—it’s perfect for anyone in Australia looking to keep a little bit of Canberra close by or for those who might be feeling homesick.

“We can actually ship the calendar, so if people want to order it to ship interstate to family and friends, then they can do that as well,” says Sharon. “We’re also offering local delivery.”

“It’s a fantastic, unique idea that people can use to celebrate with their families, even if they are at home, or with families that they’ll hopefully be able to connect with through December.”
