Five ideas for replacing the Cuddle and Bubble package shaped hole in your life

Posted on

If you don’t know what the Cuddle and Bubble Package was…are you even Canberran?

A mainstay of radio advertising for decades, the Cuddle and Bubble was a hotel package at Braddon’s Capital Executive Apartment Hotel (now the Madison Capital Executive Apartments) that featured a couple’s getaway in a spa suite with champagne and chocolates on arrival, dinner at the Haig Italian Restaurant downstairs, a buffet breakfast and a late check-out, so you can (as the lusty voiceover put it) “…lie in?”. Wink wink, nudge, nudge.

Sadly the iconic Cuddle and Bubble Package sign on Northbourne Avenue is now gone (as is the package) but you can’t deny that this was Canberra’s most iconic—and perhaps first—staycation promotion.

Well, we’ve now entered an era where—due to border closures or caution—Canberrans are choosing to holiday closer to home. So we decided to explore Canberra’s other saucy staycation packages…

Friends With Benefits (Ovolo Nishi)

This package draws its cheek name from the fact that if you book two nights at Ovolo Nishi in NewActon (or any Ovolo in Australia, for that matter) you’ll get 20% off your booking.

What’s more, if you’re fully vaccinated you’ll find a gift of a RIEDEL Drink Specific Glassware Nick & Nora glass set (valued at $55) waiting for you on arrival as well as an exclusive cocktail during Ovolo’s Social Hour at Monster Kitchen & Bar. Cute.

Date Night Package (Hotel Realm)

Meow, if the dreamy steamy images accompanying this package are anything to go by, you’re in for a treat.

The Date Night Package will allow you to enjoy every single one of Hotel Realm’s five stars with accommodation in a Realm Suite, a two-course dinner at luxe French Buvette Bistro downstairs (including a glass of vino or beer), breakfast, parking, Foxtel and video-on-demand and even…a late check out! So you can…lie in?

The Date Night Package starts from $319 but we should also note that Hotel Realm offers a Parents Package too, which includes a two-course in-room dinner with a bottle of wine and (we hope) a really good night’s sleep.

The Lovers (QT Canberra)

If a city break is on the cards for you and your QT, then The Lovers package at QT Canberra is your perfect match.

Your base for the night will be a Junior Suite which comes complete with flowers (that’s one less thing to arrange!), an “Aphrodisiac curated grazing station with champagne” (me-oww!), breakfast in your room and a curated list of the city’s most romantic spots for you to explore. Ooft.

Little Luxe Staycation (Little National Hotel)

Little National is known for trimming all the things you don’t need from a hotel stay and taking the things you do want to a new level (award-winning beds, sweeping views, free on-demand movies, T2 Tea and Nespresso, Appelles toiletries etc).

Their staycation package is much the same, offering a night in their signature Little National Rooms with a Mini Moët & dessert platter for two delivered to your door, $30 credit to use at the DOMA Group’s multitude of restaurants in the area (did someone say sushi and cocktails at Lilotang?), free WiFi and parking and a late check-out, so you can…well, you know the rest.
